Unite Foundation triples its support for young people

We’ve trebled the number of university partners helping us to provide our scholarships to young people leaving care or estranged from family. A total of 28 universities will now be awarding the Unite Foundation scholarship, which provides free accommodation for three years to students fitting the criteria.

Offering the scholarship for the first time, Professor Wyn Morgan, Vice President for Education at the University of Sheffield said: “This is wonderful news for the University. Ensuring that our students without family support feel safe, settled and have a platform to achieve their ambitions is hugely important to us. This scholarship also adds to the support and guidance we already have available for students at Sheffield who face challenging circumstances and our long history of supporting people from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve success in applying to university and studying with us.”

We are delighted that our 70 scholarships are now available at universities across the country, and we can’t wait to work with our new partners to support our students to reach their potential.

Reacting to the huge interest in expansion, Helen Arber from the Foundation said:

“With the help of our new university partners, we are going to be able to increase our scholarships next year from 50 to 70, and have much better coverage nationally. We are also looking forward to working with each of our new university partners to help support our scholars beyond where they live.”
